Aliya Newby has a bachelor’s degree of science in biomedical engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with concentration in biomedical engineering, both from The University of the District of Colombia. Her Master's Thesis Project was An investigation of subjective, audio-visual features toward the quantification of speech.

 

 Now she is a doctoral candidate in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research has focused on engineering approaches to speech rehabilitation applications. Her Doctoral thesis project is  An Investigation of Pediatric Impaired Speech: Characterizing Objective Speech Features and Data-Driven Speech Diagnostics.

 

She is a member of the BMES, NSBE, SWE and ASME. Aliya spends her free time exploring artistic outlets, learning about different philosophies, and providing and seeking mentorship
